The Highclere Show is a fantastic place to discover some traditional country sports and past times. Along with a full schedule of family entertainment, music, food and shopping coming to Highclere, our classic country sports are a super way of discovering something new too!
Take a look at some traditional country sports you can get involved in this May…
The have-a-go Clay Shooting Range at Highclere offers a great opportunity for newcomers to try shooting for the first time. Newbies will be mentored by a qualified BASC Shotgun Coach and the experience includes all the clays, cartridges and, of course, that all-important expert tuition you need. There’s also BASC Shotgun Coaching for those who already shoot too, perfect for those looking to brush up on skills with some qualified expert tuition.
Gundogs are a popular feature at the Highclere Show and from the Gundog Scurries to the popular BASC Scurry League, there will be a whole host of exciting challenges to sign up to.
For those who have never tried their furry companions out on the field, there will also be plenty of have-a-go opportunities for newbies to try out too. From Pick & Mix, Multi Pick Up and Partridge Pen to the Long Retrieve, Novice and Junior Scurries, there’s some excellent scurries to get involved in.
Highclere also hosts a wide range of terrier and lurcher showing and field events. Professionally organised by the Coursing Crew, the terrier and lurcher activities are great fun and a fantastic way to meet other enthusiasts.
Highclere also hosts qualifying rounds in the prestigious terrier & lurcher showing event held each year during September – The Countryman’s Weekly Champion of Champions. If you feel your dog has what it takes, why not come along to the Highclere Show and have a go!
British Falconry & Raptor Fair
Having been established for over 25 years, the British Falconry & Raptor Fair is an event in itself and we are thrilled that they will be joining in on the fun at the Highclere Show this May too.
Highly interactive and full of educational commentary, the Fair welcomes displays from some of the country’s leading falconers and is a great place to learn about this time-old country sport.
The Highclere Show takes place over 28th and 29th May 2022 in the gorgeous grounds of Highclere Castle. It’s easy to book tickets to this year’s countryside attraction, and by booking in advance visitors can really save on the pounds too. Click here for more information.
If you’re on the lookout for something different to entertain the family over the May half-term holiday, then why not browse the Highclere Show website and discover everything we’ve got coming. We can’t wait to welcome you all in!
